Job Description

At Apple, we don’t just build products—we create experiences that have transformed entire industries. Behind these innovations is a diverse and talented team whose ideas and collaboration drive everything we do. Imagine what you could achieve here. Join Apple and help us leave the world better than we found it.

The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) organization powers the platforms behind the App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV+, iCloud, Apple Books, Apple Arcade, and more. ASE builds the systems and infrastructure that support the global scale, high availability, and seamless experience our customers expect. We provide the backbone for Apple’s services—from commerce and content delivery to backend infrastructure and cloud computing.

About the Role

We are seeking passionate, highly skilled individuals for two key roles within ASE:

1. Systems Engineering Manager

As a Systems Engineering Manager, you will lead a team that designs, builds, and supports large-scale infrastructure systems powering mission-critical services like iCloud, Siri, Maps, and iTunes. Your team will focus on developing tools and platforms that promote automation, self-service, and operational efficiency across Apple’s cloud systems. You’ll collaborate with world-class engineers to architect scalable, resilient systems that “just work” and enable the next generation of Apple services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of systems engineers.

  • Design and support multi-tenant infrastructure as a managed service.

  • Promote automation through tools like Puppet, Ansible, and custom scripting in Python or Go.

  • Manage large-scale Linux environments (Oracle Linux, CentOS).

  • Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence across the team.

  • Foster a culture of ownership, transparency, and collaboration.

  • Ensure infrastructure is secure, compliant, and optimized for performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in the tech industry, with significant leadership experience in cloud infrastructure.

  • 5+ years managing enterprise services in large-scale *nix environments.

  • Strong experience in Linux systems administration, automation, and configuration management.

  • Expertise in cloud computing architectures and performance optimization.

  • Proficiency in version control systems (GitHub), CI/CD pipelines, and system monitoring tools.

  • Strong communication skills, and a passion for mentoring and leadership.

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Preferred:

  • Information security and regulatory compliance experience.

  • Ability to manage distributed teams across multiple geographies.

  • Strong belief in infrastructure automation and reducing operational overhead via software.

2. Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

As a Software Development Engineer in Test, you’ll build automation frameworks and internal tools that ensure the reliability and scalability of our commerce platforms, supporting services like Apple Music, Apple TV+, Podcasts, and Apple One. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to develop test strategies, create reusable tools, and integrate automation into continuous integration pipelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop robust test automation for APIs, UI, and backend commerce systems.

  • Design and implement tools to support scalable, reliable testing infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with engineers across Apple’s services to define testing strategies.

  • Improve continuous integration/deployment workflows with automation.

  • Analyze complex technical problems and provide scalable, maintainable solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent (or 2+ years relevant experience).

  • Strong programming skills in Python, Swift, Java, or JavaScript.

  • Familiarity with REST APIs, SQL, and shell scripting.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with configuration tools (Puppet, Chef).

  • Familiarity with large-scale test infrastructure and tools.

  • Proven ability to quickly understand new technical domains.

Pay & Benefits

Apple offers competitive compensation within a broad range: $139,500–$258,100, depending on your skills, experience, and location.

Additional benefits include:

  • Participation in Apple’s stock programs, including RSUs and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
