Role Overview

As a Credit Risk Officer within the Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB) Credit team, you will be responsible for managing and delivering credit risk solutions for wholesale clients across various industries. This role is integral to supporting the company’s growth strategy, ensuring sound credit decisions, and maintaining a strong risk framework in line with underwriting standards.

You will work closely with internal partners across Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Sales & Trading, Risk Management, and Legal to assess, structure, and manage credit exposure for institutional clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of prospective and existing clients, including conducting due diligence and recommending appropriate credit terms and conditions.

  • Structure, negotiate, and approve credit transactions, including loans, derivatives (FX, rates, commodities, equities), and other financial products.

  • Manage the credit portfolio at client, industry, and macro levels—ensuring portfolio granularity, asset quality, and compliance with credit capital targets.

  • Maintain robust knowledge of the Global Banking & Markets product suite to craft value-added solutions that balance client needs and risk mitigation.

  • Establish and monitor internal risk ratings throughout the client lifecycle and ensure proper credit documentation is in place.

  • Partner with Relationship Managers, Product Specialists, Syndications, and Legal to deliver strategic credit solutions.

  • Lead and mentor Associates and Analysts within the team, contributing to talent development and team effectiveness.

  • Participate in and lead strategic initiatives or projects that enhance business and risk management capabilities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Extensive credit risk experience in a major financial institution, ideally within corporate or investment banking.

  • Strong credit skills and risk judgment with knowledge of EMEA markets and industry-specific credit factors.

  • Expertise in structuring credit facilities and negotiating legal documentation.

  • Commercial mindset and ability to assess relative value and apply risk mitigation strategies.

  • Strong understanding of credit risk sensitivities and portfolio risk drivers.

  • Knowledge of lending and derivative products, and proficiency in risk assessment tools and methodologies.

  • Proven track record of portfolio management and meeting regulatory and internal audit standards.

  • Ability to influence and drive improvements in credit policy, processes, and conduct risk management.

  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple business lines.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or related field; advanced degree is a plus.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

  • Fluency in English; German language skills are an advantage.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Experience using CRM and banking systems for client management and credit processes.
