Job Description: Data Quality and Business Intelligence Specialist

Overview
FedEx is seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient professional to join our data team as a Data Quality and Business Intelligence Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data analytics, reporting, and data products across the organization. You will also contribute to the development, optimization, and maintenance of our business intelligence (BI) and data warehouse systems, empowering stakeholders through insightful analysis, self-service data exploration, and secure data access.

Key Responsibilities

Data Quality and Governance

  • Define, implement, and maintain robust data quality rules, validations, and profiling across critical datasets.

  • Collaborate with Data Engineers and Analysts to identify Critical Data Elements (CDEs) and establish data quality thresholds and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Develop and maintain alerting mechanisms for pipeline failures and data anomalies.

  • Build or integrate automated tools for data validation, profiling, anomaly detection, and observability.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test suites for data pipelines, including checks for row counts, null values, schema integrity, and referential consistency.

  • Contribute to metadata enrichment and documentation to enhance data transparency and usability across the organization.

Business Intelligence and Analytics

  • Design and optimize data warehouse architecture for efficient, secure storage and retrieval of large datasets.

  • Support and enhance self-service BI tools and data exploration platforms, enabling stakeholders to analyze and visualize data independently.

  • Develop insightful reporting and analytics applications tailored to business needs.

  • Implement and maintain data models that support analytical workflows and business objectives.

  • Ensure data security, federation, and compliance with confidentiality standards across BI systems.

  • Optimize BI processes and adopt industry best practices to drive operational efficiency and data reliability.

  • Provide user training and support on BI tools, fostering data literacy across the organization.

  • Coordinate with vendors and oversee BI project implementation to ensure timely and effective delivery.

Education & Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Statistics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline. Master’s degree or PhD preferred.

Experience:
Relevant experience based on job level:

  • Associate: Prior experience not required

  • Standard I: 2 years

  • Standard II: 3 years

  • Senior I: 4 years

  • Senior II: 5 years

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Fluency in English

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Attention to detail and high accuracy standards

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data-related software tools

  • Strong numerical and statistical skills

  • Planning, organizing, and presentation skills

  • Experience with data modeling, ETL processes, and database design

  • Programming skills (e.g., SQL, Python)

  • Familiarity with data observability tools and BI platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
