This position performs custodial work and serves as a lead worker for an assigned squad of B&G Workers, whose primary purpose is to provide quality cleaning services to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus. The Sr B&G Worker assumes overall responsibility for the performance and functions of the squad assigned through training, direction, follow-up, and support while remaining in coordination with the supervisor. This is not a supervisory role and does not include performing any disciplinary actions.

Responsibilities
Provide support, training, and work direction to the assigned squad of B&G Workers in the safe and effective use and care of custodial tools, equipment, and products.
Provide support, training, and work direction to the assigned squad of B&G Workers in the safe and effective performance of routine and non-routine (project) custodial procedures.
Provide support, training, and work direction to the assigned squad of B&G Workers for the completion of special requests and follow-up to any quality improvement opportunities that are identified.
Provide support, training, and work direction to the assigned squad of B&G Workers in the prioritization of tasks especially during unique circumstances such as staff shortage, inclement weather, department events, etc.
Provide support, training, and work direction to the assigned squad of B&G Workers in the performance of administrative tasks such as clocking in/out, requesting time off, etc.
Provide support in ensuring the assigned B&G Workers complete all required training sessions.
Monitor the squads equipment, tools, and supplies for condition, stock levels, etc. and report needs and concerns to the supervisor.
Assist with routine care and maintenance of the squads tools and equipment.
Assist in monitoring the work performance and interactions between assigned squad members in support of a culture of respect and accountability.
Perform routine custodial and project duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Disseminate information from the supervisor to the assigned B&G Workers.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions of Position
Have a high standard of quality expectation and an ability to see deficiencies.
Perform assigned custodial duties per standards - including snow shoveling and de-icing.
Provide support, training, and work direction to others.
Follow and uphold University policies and procedures.
Assist in sustaining a culture of respect and accountability.
Maintain regular attendance.

This job may be designated as essential.

Work Environment/Physical requirements
Climbing, stooping, kneeling, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, grasping, and talking. Subject to environmental conditions and activities that occur both inside and outside. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Ability to lead others in custodial work. Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Experience using standard custodial equipment, dispensing chemicals safely and an understanding of safe custodial practices. A work record clean of disciplinary actions that demonstrates strong performance and positive leadership skills. A minimum of 3 years of applicable custodial work experience. Ability to shovel snow and perform (or learn to perform) project work such as carpet extraction, floor scrubbing, finish application, window washing, deep cleaning, etc. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Must not have any current Disciplinary Action on record.
Essential Qualification: Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of proper safe custodial procedures
Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing
Basic computer skills
Ability to operate standard custodial equipment
Ability to observe of all safety rules and regulations
Ability to prioritize workload demands to reflect urgency of tasks & customer needs
Some assignments may require a valid drivers license.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $22.17-$27.10; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
