Job Description

Position Title: Remote Pharmacy Specialist (Pharmacist / Pharmacy Technician – Data Entry)

Compensation: $16.50 - $22.00/hour (Technician); $75,000/year+ (Pharmacist, depending on experience and location)

Position Summary:

Walgreens is seeking dedicated professionals to join our remote pharmacy services team. This role may vary depending on your licensure, experience, and job function, encompassing responsibilities such as prescription data entry, patient support, third-party resolution, and clinical pharmacy services. Whether you're a licensed Pharmacist or an experienced Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in driving healthcare strategies, improving patient outcomes, and supporting Walgreens' mission to deliver exceptional, accessible care.

Key Responsibilities:

For All Roles:

  • Process and manage patient prescription requests and data entry with accuracy and compliance under HIPAA regulations.

  • Use Walgreens’ pharmacy systems to access patient, drug, and insurance information.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to inbound calls, emails, and chats, while making necessary outbound calls to prescribers or patients.

  • Resolve insurance claim rejections (Third Party Rejects) by contacting insurers or using appropriate systems.

  • Assist Pharmacists and collaborate with pharmacy staff to ensure efficient and accurate prescription fulfillment.

  • Support Walgreens’ core health programs such as immunizations, medication adherence initiatives, and clinical consultations as needed.

  • Maintain knowledge of pharmacy procedures, systems, and regulatory requirements.

For Licensed Pharmacists:

  • Implement direct patient care programs including Medication Therapy Management, Immunizations, and Clinical Adherence Programs.

  • Conduct clinical reviews, evaluate drug therapy, and provide individualized patient and provider consultations.

  • Monitor pharmacy financial performance and execute patient care strategies to maximize reimbursements.

  • Ensure continuous quality improvement and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for pharmacy staff and field leadership, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work culture.

Minimum Qualifications:

Pharmacy Technician:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency (e.g., data entry, search engine use, online forms).

  • Intermediate to advanced keyboarding skills (minimum 25–35 WPM).

  • Ability to obtain and maintain active pharmacy technician certification/licensure within 90 days of hire.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Pharmacist:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).

  • Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in applicable state(s).

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a retail or clinical pharmacy setting.

  • Ability to motivate team members and manage multiple projects independently.

  • Willingness to work non-standard hours (evenings, weekends, holidays) and travel up to 10% if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in pharmacy data entry, retail pharmacy, or call center environment.

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

  • Familiarity with insurance plans and pharmacy systems such as Intercom, Promise, and Plus.

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Willingness to obtain additional state pharmacy licenses if needed.
